“Sites of Memory and Acts of Imagination in African American and African Diasporic Visual Arts and Culture”

The David C. Driskell Center 's theme for the academic year 2007-2008 explores how memory and imagination have shaped African American and African Diasporic visual arts and culture. The intersections between history and imagination allow artists and scholars to investigate the ways in which imagination has shaped or influenced African American history, literature, and culture. When “traditional” means of recording a memory are denied, alternate forms emerge and enrich our culture.
